StrataFx Brings a New Look to the Skies of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

StrataSim Designs, the developer behind StrataWx, has released StrataFx in early access for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The new utility gives pilots control over the appearance of the atmosphere, including sky color, haze, and lighting, with adaptive themes that respond to changing flight conditions.

For simmers who enjoy watching daylight fade during a long flight, this announcement offers another reason to spend a little more time looking out the window.

An Atmosphere That Changes With the Flight

According to StrataSim, StrataFx adjusts the simulator’s own atmospheric rendering values. Eight included themes provide a starting point: five maintain a fixed style, while three adapt to the sun’s position, local time, and visibility.

Quick adjustments cover atmosphere depth, sky blue, sun glow, and ambient light. More detailed controls allow users to build, save, and share their own themes.

The appeal is straightforward: pilots can choose an atmospheric appearance that suits their preferences and let an adaptive theme evolve throughout the flight. Your sunset screenshots may soon require their own storage drive.

Works Alongside StrataWx

StrataFx can run independently, so StrataWx ownership is optional. When both applications run together, StrataFx can use StrataWx’s visibility information to guide its adaptive themes.

Users can restore the original simulator values by stopping StrataFx or closing the application. The developer also checks supported simulator builds before allowing changes to be applied.

Early Access Availability

StrataFx is available for MSFS 2024 on Windows. The official store currently lists $18.99, against a regular price of $19.99, with a $16.99 owner price for qualifying StrataWx customers who sign in. Applicable sales tax is additional.

As an early access release, the product remains under development. It gives readers an opportunity to follow a new atmosphere utility as its features and compatibility continue to mature.

More information, current requirements, and purchasing details are available on the official StrataFx product page.
