Hoowalt Opens D303 Helicopter Cyclic Preorders With Adjustable Damping

Helicopter sim pilots have another piece of hardware to consider for their home cockpits. Hoowalt has opened preorders for its D303 Helicopter Cyclic Control Stick, with an introductory discount available through November 7.

The controller supports Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, X-Plane 11 and 12, and DCS World. Hoowalt currently lists a regular price of $659.99, reduced to $560.99 at checkout during the early bird promotion. Preorders have an estimated shipping lead time of approximately 25–30 days.

A Cyclic That Holds Its Position

The D303’s main feature is an adjustable damping mechanism that allows the stick to remain where the pilot releases it, rather than automatically returning to center. An included spring provides optional self-centering for those who prefer it.

Both pitch and roll use non-contact Hall-effect sensors, with 12 degrees of movement in either direction on each axis. The grip includes four physical buttons—one with two stages—and a four-way hat switch for assignable simulator commands.

For helicopter enthusiasts, that makes the D303 an interesting alternative to adapting a conventional joystick. Hovering already gives your hands plenty to do; choosing how much resistance the stick provides could make the setup better suited to individual preferences.

Built Around a Seated Cockpit

Standing 700 millimeters tall, the D303 uses a curved shaft to provide clearance around the front of a seat. Its metal base measures 200 by 200 millimeters, with suction cups or screw mounting for an aluminum profile cockpit.

USB connectivity allows pilots to assign axes and buttons within their simulator without installing a dedicated driver, according to Hoowalt.

Preorders Are Open

The announcement gives rotorcraft fans another dedicated control option to weigh against their available space, mounting arrangements, and budget. Actual handling quality will be something to assess once production units reach pilots.
